This weekend in Lancaster County

You need time away to just have fun.

If you are the busy person that can’t sit still why not try Civil War Days at Landis Valley. Are you the person that wants to sit back and watch the world go by? How about a balcony overlooking the farm lands? Do you need a bottle of wine to go with that? Ahhh, dinner to finish it off. We have many suggestions if these don’t do it

Labor Day Weekend in Lancaster County

Wrap up the Summer in Lancaster County. Make it a long weekend because there are all sorts of things to do. You can start early Friday with the Long’s Park Art & Craft Festival, actually you could probably spend more than one day there. Next we have the PA Renaissance Faire and that is another time that you could do more than one day, see you might need a week :) . In the evening you could do a dinner theatre we have 2 in the county. Of course, you could just relax here at the farm or I could send you out to enjoy the river either by just watching it flow by you or getting into a canoe or kayak. Plan ahead.

“Stars” coming to Lancster County

Are you old enough to remember Ringo Starr of Beatles fame? Well, he is coming to Lancaster County this week at the American Music Theatre and is bringing his all Starr band. Another star coming is Donald Braswell of America’s Got Talent fame. He will be in “The Centurion – The Musical” at Living Waters Theatre. You will need to book ahead for both of these. Other things going on are the Celtic Fling at Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire, Celebrate Lancaster in downtown with music and last of all a Sock Hop at DJ’s taste of the 50′s.

Summer Time In Lancaster County

The words “summer time” just make you think fun, for me it evokes memories of carefree days with no school. Everyones “fun” is different and in Lancaster County that fun can usually be found. Ice tea drinking in the shade, I got you covered here at Vogt Farm. or you could choose to go to Turkey Hill Experience and enjoy “National Iced Tea Day” June 10. The other extreme is roller coaster riding  at Hershey Park, they have a new one this year called Skyrush. Next week we’ll try to pursue less extremes.

5 Run in Columbia

I’m sure someone out there enjoys brutalizing their body like some of my children(really adults) do. So step right up and register for this 5K run. May 26, SVCC will host the 12th annual River Run.  Pre-registration is underway for this 5k run which begins at 8:30 AM.  Cheer on the participants as they cross the Veterans Memorial Bridge.

Last weekend my daughter did a 1/2 IronMan in Virginia. When she showed up here several hours later she looked none the worse for the wear. Since this mom is not so physically fit I find it mind boggling what you do in the name of fun. You see I must always taste the food that is served for quality control and besides that who ever heard of a skinny cook you could trust???

Pretzels in Lancaster County

YUMMY pretzels! Served with peanut butter, plain butter, dips and whatever you might want to add. I even make a dessert using pretzels. So this Saturday in Lititz  it is FEST time. Sturgis Pretzels in Lititz has been around for a long time and I’m sure will have a lot to do with this event.  If you venture to Intercourse you can go to Intercourse Pretzel Factory, my favorite pretzel there is the  brown butter pretzel. Lancaster County is settled by the Germans and we love our pretzels, whether they are thin, fat, flavored, plain or dipped (chocolate is good). You need to experience this to understand.

History Weekend

It Happened on the Square with our own Mayor J. Richard Gray will be happening on Friday. While you are downtown you might want to take a segway tour and see even more. Stay a little longer in the city and enjoy Music Friday, our city goes all out for this and you can stroll the streets take in the music, eat, visit some art studios and just relax.

Awake to a good breakfast at Vogt Farm and we’ll discuss what ever you want to do. If you want to continue the history you can go to PA Railroad Museum and take in t he info about The Role of Railroads in Pennsylvania During the Civil War. However, if you’ve had enough of that I’ll have other things for things for you to enjoy.

Easter Week

Easter Week for some is a holy time for others it is a time for celebrating Spring. If you are the former you might want to come enjoy an Easter Sunrise service with other believers followed by a breakfast at the church or come back to the B&B and have breakfast. If you are the later we have shopping and hiking or biking.

All of you might like to take in the performance of “The Confession” based on the book by Beverly Lewis. You will need reservations call 717-569-5437 or go to bird-in-hand.

March 23-24 Things to do

Small town America is a wonderful way to live. To showcase this what they offer  two very local towns have 4th Friday events. Mount Joy (just 3 miles) has little shops open till 8 and food in abundance at the cafes and restaurants. Usually there is street music and town is bustling with people walking the streets and enjoying the locals. Columbia (6 miles) offer food, art and other goings on.  It gives a different prospective on how people really live.

Did you ever what to bake bread from scratch? If so, The Good Cooking Store is offering a class on Saturday the 23th.

Murder at Mount Hope is this Friday night. Dinner and fun, how can you beat that.

Goings on in Lancaster

We now know Winter is gone because the pace has picked up in Lancaster. This week is the BIG AQS (American Quilt Show) in downtown Lancaster, at the Convention Center. March 16 (Friday night) you can participate in a Murder Mystery at Mount Hope Estate & Winery, now that sounds like fun. Dutch Apple is doing 9 to 5 the Musical. Come on down there is something for everyone.
