Easter is coming to Lancaster County and it starts now.

WOW, we have shows, cooking classes and much more, all going on this week.

March 26 at The Good Cooking Store in Intercourse. Join Valerie Baer, a home cook with years of baking experience, for an afternoon of scones and tea. In this class you will see Val demonstrate how to make Double Chocolate Scones, Cranberry Orange Scones, Cream Scones, Lemon Curd, and a simplified Clotted Cream. You will get to sample these demonstrated recipes, along with Tomato Feta Scones and Homemade Pesto. You will also enjoy some information on various kinds of tea and get to sample various teas from our tea bar. 717-768-3032 or www.thegoodcookingstore.com

REMEMBER you can shop our wonderful farmers markets and buy all that fresh stuff for your Easter dinner. I just ordered my asparagus for our dinner. We will have about 26 + or – for dinner on the 31st. To see my Scalloped Asparagus recipe go to Vogt Farm B&B Facebook.

Winter is out

Okay, the Ground Hog had his say and now I’m having mine (however, not nearly as popular). I say lets move past winter and have some fun. Murder Mystery (and dinner) should give you a new view on life. Try Mount Hope Mansion for a fun packed night. OR a Victorian Valentine Dinner at Landis Valley Museum. You can start the day by making truffles in Hershey and then enjoying them on the way home. To me eating is much more fun then dwelling on Winter :)

More Christmas

I’ve writtten so much about Christmas that one would think that is all I think about, not so, but I keep getting more and more info on things that are happening here in Lancaster County and they all seem like fun and interesting ways to celebrate. This coming weekend must be the busiest of all. Just a few miles from me is the Marietta House Tour and the town closes down its year of celebrating 200 years as a town. This tour is always a big affair for the town. It will be Sunday Dec. 2 starting at 11 am.

Let’s see….Friday you can go to Intercourse for their Holiday Celebration starting at 4:30. Saturday you can do the Landis Valley Museum with all the Pennsylvania German Christmas stuff then move on to the PA Railroad Museum. Enough museums, while you are all down that way how about a great dinner at Iron Horse Inn. Dee’s food is always wonderful. I have more in my head just come by.

Thanksgiving Dinner

Over the river and through the woods to Grandmother’s house we go….. I guess most people don’t do this anymore, our family does, except for the woods/river thing, but there is hope…..Lancaster County has lots of restaurants that offer Thanksgiving Dinner. I have a list and am willing to share the info with you or you can go PDCVB and they have a list of the restaurants. If you really want to go over the river I can arrange that also.

Fridays in Lancaster County

WORK IS DONE NOW FOR FUN…………………it’s Friday and what am I going to do???? Our small towns have a great plan for having fun, they are special Fridays. First Friday is Downtown Lancaster , second Friday is Downtown Lititz, fourth Friday is Mount Joy and Columbia. People stroll the sidewalks and enjoy specials offered by the little shops, most restaurants offer a deal if you show a receipt from a local shop. Someone thinks up great themes and it might include tastings (like chili or chocolate) or watching someone do ice sculptures. All in all you get the small town experience and have fun.

Ghost Tours in Lancaster County

It’s October and for some reason it is associated with “ghost tours”. Lancaster County will not be out done :) We have a walking tour in Strasburg. Aside from ghosts it is a beautiful little town. While there you can do a train ride and do more ghosts.  Enough, if you really like this stuff you can go to Jason’s Woods and spend the evening. I’m much more interested in food , BUT you can do a ghost tour at Bube’s Brewery as well.

Fall in Lancaster County

Fall seems to be a favorite season for everyone, and why not, the weather is wonderful, the trees are all dressed in their finery and Lancaster County is a great destination. Have you ever done a corn maze? Cherry Crest is offering a flashlight maze, a bit of adventure, lots of laughs all with a moon lite night. Before you head to the maze you can have dinner at Iron Horse Inn in Strasburg, let me tell you it is delicious, yup everything on the menu. Tell Dee I sent you. You need to eat before the maze so that you will have room for breakfast at Vogt Farm the next morning :)

This weekend in Lancaster County

You need time away to just have fun.

If you are the busy person that can’t sit still why not try Civil War Days at Landis Valley. Are you the person that wants to sit back and watch the world go by? How about a balcony overlooking the farm lands? Do you need a bottle of wine to go with that? Ahhh, dinner to finish it off. We have many suggestions if these don’t do it

Intercourse, PA

This town is always of interesting to our visitors. Quite frankly, we in Lancaster County don’t even give the name a second thought. To me it is a place to send guests that want a buggy ride, to see quilts, taste great food or shop at some neat specialty shops. This week end one of those shops is having a Hot Dog Bash on Saturday, Intercourse Canning Company. While you are there you can visit those neat shops, do some taste tests at Kitchen Kettle , do the pretzel thing Intercourse Pretzel and try the soft pretzels at Immergut Pretzels (no website, run by the Amish). So you see you can spend all day just hanging out eating, shopping, eating, shopping etc.

The fresh fruit of Summer

I love the roadside stands with all the fresh picked vegetables and fruits, we have 2 along our road, they are not open Sundays, if you forget to pick it up Saturday I can send you to Marietta that has a small farmers market on Sundays 9-1. Blueberries are on the agenda for this week. I usually freeze about 30 lbs. to use all winter, but the best is fresh with cream (yes, I do mean cream) and granola. Last week I put a few quarts of raspberries in the freezer to use as well. This morning I went to my garden and picked green beans, so you can see that fresh is in and that is what we are doing.
